Elena Odriozola
Becoming an illustrator was not a decision but something that came by itself. Just as if it had to be that way, as if she couldnÂ’t help it. That happened in 1997, but it started when she was a little girl. Step by step, unhurriedly and without any pretension. And sheÂ’s going on for now, she doesnÂ’t know for how long. ItÂ’s supposed to last as long as she enjoys it orÂ… She prefers not to know it.
Along the way, she also worked in an advertising agency and it was fun while it lasted. All what she learned there was very useful to interpret texts. And to know that the less said the betterÂ…
Spanish Ministry of Culture awarded her the Second Prize for the Best Illustrations of Children and Young PeopleÂ’s Books published in 2005 for La princesa que bostezaba a todas horas, written by Carmen Gil and published by OQO Editora.
She was candidate for Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award 2012 amongst other recognitions and was awarded in 3rd CJ Picture Book Awards (South Korea) for Oda a una estrella (Libros del Zorro Rojo).
Elena OdriozolaÂ’s illustrations have delicate and intimate strokes, with a soft and restrained colour palette, and they effectively solve, both in a technical and conceptual way, a sequence of situations where subtlety and finesse stand out as predominant features of this excellent plastic proposal.
Her work was selected for the IlustrÃsimos exhibition on occasion of Spain featuring as guest country at the Bologna ChildrenÂ’s Book Fair in 2005, where sheÂ’s exhibited several times.
