Violeta Lópiz

Awarded at CJ Picture Book Awards (South Korea, 2011), New Publications category, for Les poings sur les iles, published by Editions du Rouergue. El Cultural (El Mundo newspaper supplement) considers her one of the ten essential names of todayÂ’s Spanish illustration.
Violeta was born in Ibiza. After sailing to the Peninsula she settled in Madrid. Due to the absence of sea and nature, she isolated herself from the city at home, where she used to draw and play the piano. This way she recovered colours and sounds left behind at her hometown.
Some years ago she discovered Illustration and since then she has immerse herself in it, as enthusiastic and dedicated as a lover. Something that characterizes her as an artist itÂ’s her ability to turn every work into a new challenge, an opportunity to explore both project possibilities and her own ones.
Her illustrator hands learnt at the school of crafts and her head did it through an internship at El Mundo newspaper. Her convictions were also fortified by several workshops with Javier Zabala, Linda Wolfsgruber and Józef Wilkon, as well as other creative neighbours who hold out their hands to her.
Violeta fills her illustrations with all her experiences, so itÂ’s not rare to find in her creations music, claque and trips remains. Her childhood is one of her biggest sources of inspiration, where she finds her childlike spontaneity and imagination.
Currently she lives in Berlin, from where she regularly contributes to Unica, supplement of Expresso (Portuguese newspaper). SheÂ’s also contributed to El Mundo, El Economista and Man.
